Using the Pentagram Strategy to Develop Electrical Concepts and Problem-Solving Skills among Industrial Secondary Education Students

Document Type : Original Article

Abstract

The current research aims to develop the concepts of electrical engineering and the skills of solving electrical problems in the third wall unit (components of electrical circuits) pre-scribed for first-year industrial secondary school students, specializing in electricity, during the first semester of the academic year 2023/2024 AD, as well as verifying the effect of the Pentagram strategy in developing the concepts and skills of solving electrical problems in-cluded in the unit. Considering this, a teacher's guide was prepared to teach the unit con-sidering the Pentagram strategy, a student's guide to implement various educational tasks according to the Pentagram strategy, and a test of electrical concepts and a test of solving electrical problems included in the unit.

The research sample consisted of (60) first-year students specializing in electricity in the (Installation Technician) department at Al-Mostaqbal Industrial Secondary School for Boys, three-year system, divided equally into two groups, one experimental, studied using the Pentagram strategy, and the other a control group, studied using the prevailing learning method. Pre- and post-measurement tools were applied to the two research groups.

The results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level (0.01) between the average scores of the students of the experimental and control groups in the post-applications of both the electrical engineering concepts test and the electrical problem-solving test, in favor of the experimental group, which indicates the effectiveness of the pentagram strategy. The research recommends the importance of training industrial educa-tion teachers to use it in teaching different subjects
